I’ve been saying it for about a year now that Mac Miller has not been the same Macadelic rapper that we always liked. Back in the day Mac Miller was batting 400. from the plate, producing hit after hit and attracting more and more fans. He did everything from making his own beats to sampling the coolest songs (after Wiz’s sample of “Walking on a Dream” in his classic “The Thrill”). Not only were his raps fun, but they also appealed to the ears of us (teens). Whether you were at a party, taking a nap, or taking a long shower there was always a Mac Miller song that you could throw on. I regretfully say that he has yet to produce anything great since he released “Best Day Ever”, which was in the Spring of 2011. Lately his raps have presented a lifestyle that less people can relate to, and seemingly has lost his original sound. Not to sound cheesy, but I felt like I knew the old Mac Miller…but lately he has felt like a stranger to me. On a positive note Mac’s newest song “Missed Call” kind of brings back his old chill, youthful and fun style. This jam starts out with a nice little kick to the balls from the bass accompanied by a chill melody. The song kind of loses its old way when it goes into a “Maroon Five like” lovey-dovey chorus, but other than that this song has definitely shown flashes of the old Mac.
