Interview With Filtercrush
1. How did you come up with the name Filtercrush?
Misha: A favorite pastime of ours when we have writers block in the studio is watching stupid Youtube videos. Pretty much any production tutorial coming out of Russia is good for a laugh. Somewhere along the line, after watching several hours of these videos, we found ourselves yelling in a very bad Russian accent: “Brooo, Crush the Filter!” That eventually turned into Filtercrush.
2. What is the best venue you have played at?
Misha: The best venue we’ve played technically speaking is Marquee New York. They went all out with the renovations, the sound system and lighting is incredibly top notch. Best sounding booth on the east coast!
3. Favorite bar in NYC? Easiest bar to slay?
Kyle: We’ve never played in a bar but our favorite club to play at is Lavo in New York. We play there quite a bit individually, so its like a second home for us. The staff is like family and the entire room is so familiar to us. It’s like our version of Cheers.
4. Do you have similar tastes in EDM?
Misha: Yes and no. While we both love melodic/progressive style tracks, our backgrounds couldn’t be more different. I tend to side with the harder Russian big room electro.
Kyle: I usually go more for the bouncy, progressive, more melodic stuff from the Swedes.
5. Favorite artists when you were in 8th grade?
Kyle: I was a big Hip Hop kid around that age, so I was jamming out to any East Coast hip hop from the late 90’s. I’m sure theres a middle school yearbook somewhere with me wearing a gigantic hoodie and Timberland boots. If you find a copy, please burn it.
Misha: At that age I was a serious metal head! Black clothes, dyed hair, the whole nine yards. Metallica, It Dies Today, Dream Theater, and Protest The Hero were my cup of tea.
6. Hardest part of starting out as a group?
Misha: I think the hardest part of working together is finding a good workflow. It takes some time to get into a rhythm that allows us work efficiently and to where we’re both happy with the end results of each session.
7. 3 goals for 2013? Top 3 accomplishments so far?
Misha: As far as goals are concerned, we take everything one day at a time. However, three big milestones we’ve hit so far were getting a track picked up by a label, reaching 5,000 Facebook fans (legitimately), and playing our first big gig together.
8. Are you guys dating anyone?
Kyle: I have a special lady, but Misha is on the market. Ladies be warned, he is not a cheap date.
9. If you had to pick 3 superpowers to have what would they be?
Kyle: Flying, mind reading, and time manipulation.
Misha: I would have to agree on the Flying. Teleportation and invisibility would be awesome, too.
10. Final words?
Misha: Word.
Kyle: Yep, word.
ThemMostUnrealBeats would like to sincerely thank both Kyle and Misha of Filtercrush for taking the time out of their busy schedules to do this interview.
